On Friday August 3 we will be saying a fond farewell to our ewe lambs. They have found a great home in Bristolville, Ohio. I've tried my best to not get too attached to this year's lambs; but alas, Sofie has wriggled her way into my heart. It will be very hard to say goodbye to my "Sofie-Sheep". So I will take many pictures to keep her memory alive. Here's one as I greeted her this morning.

Last week our our beloved cat, Bruce, returned to the farm after having been absent for over 10 days. He was not well. Starved and suffering from a massive bacterical infection, we quickly rushed him to the vet. After two major surgeries, he is back home recovering. So far so good, but it will take more than a month of wound care to get him healthy again. Poor little kitty.
The time has come to say a fond farewell to Punxy. He is one of our friendliest rams and we will miss him very much. But Punxy has found a beautiful home up in Shafer Minnesota, where he will be added to a small flock of Polypay sheep. He's going to be a daddy some day, and we are happy for him.
The sheep trailer works very well for hauling several sheep. But what if we only have to transport one or two? Here's the solution:
Here's a medium sized bass I caught at Chester Lake the other day. The day after I landed a monster crappie from the boat. Alas, I did not have my camera with me at the time. But that crappie was HUGE!
It seems that Bruce and Gigi have produced some offspring. They showed up one morning behind the hay bales. Gigi still will not let us get near her. The kittens are following in her footsteps.
Yesterday we tagged all the lambs. The painted numbers were fading to the point that some of them were hard to tell apart. Here's Sandie just as she was tagged. She did not enjoy the experience but managed to give us a silly smile for the camera anyway.
Today we said a fond farewell to one of our most favorite lambs, Hershey. The star of "Planet Lamb" has found a new home in Delavan, Wisconsin. Hershey will be added to a small flock of Polypay sheep, along with other barnyard animals. The early reports are that he is having a blast and has already made a new friend with another little lamb; and the new owners are taking very good care of him. We are so happy for Hershey, although it was very hard for Farmer Tom to say goodbye.
Yesterday we re-branded all the lambs. The original brands were getting just too faint to see. It was fun, though by the end of it, we both smelled like sheep. We had to hug the lambs close to keep them still enough for their new numbers. We also took the opportunity to give them their CDT shots and de-worming drenchers. They are all set to go for the lush Spring grass.
The weather has been gorgeous this Spring, and our lambs are really growing up fast. Today, I went out to pasture with the herd and sat with my lambs for a little while. This is the fun part of raising sheep. No leaves on the trees just yet, but the warmer weather is sure to green up the Bear Valley very soon.
