Just wanted to show you how big Annie and Oakley are becoming. Our little bottle babies aren't so little anymore. And they are downright aggressive when they drink, punching all the way to the point where we often have the bottle fly right out of our hands. Of course, our lambs are nothing but friendly and cuddly, but when it comes time to drink, they drink heavily. We are now at the stage where we are starting to wean them off the milk, giving them less and less each day, much to their annoyance.

Our doggie Bear loves to play a game we call "Duck Duck Duck" I toss a duck for him to fetch and when Bear comes back with it, I throw him another duck and round and round we go. Today, Bear managed to get a hold of both ducks and he was not about to give them up. Victorious, Bear sat himself down and played happily with his quarry.
A couple of days ago, Mother Nature hit us with a bunch of snow. But the weatherman predicts it'll all be melted by the weekend. Now's my chance to get some really good photos of the lambs. Snow makes an excellent backdrop for pictures. My lambs are growing up so fast.
This morning we moved Norma and her little Ferrari (#8) into the big pen. Ferrari explored his new world with vigor, every once in a while looking back at his mama to make sure she was still around. Ferrari is a cute little ram whose eyelids are just a little high giving him that perpetual "surprised" look. However, it may not be anything to do with his eyelids; he might just be perpetually surprised at this particular time. His world has just quadrupled in size. Wait until the stampeding hoard arrives tonight when the entire flock pours into the barn. Don't worry, we'll make sure Ferrari is in a safe place for his first introduction to all the other sheep. These lambs tend to adapt quickly to changing environments.
Norma finally gave birth to a single ram, little Ferrari, yesterday evening. So winter lambing has now come to a close. Ferrari was so named because he came out very very fast. A little pushing, a little grunting, and out he flung into a brave new world. Within 10 minutes he was standing on his feet. Within the hour he was nursing. All looks well. So congratulations Norma on another beautiful addition to Bear Valley Farm. For the winter lambs we have six females and seven males.
