It looks like the band that docked Frodo's tail did not work properly. So today the vet came by
to fix Frodo up by nipping off his tail. Frodo was not happy to have been sequestered but he came through like a champ. This is the before photo. Next time you see him he'll be tailless. To make more room we decided this year to create the lamb's creep feeder on the outside of their pen. It's working really well--we should have done this years ago.
Bawoo became hypothermic on her second day. It happened so quick; her core temperature plummeted to 85 degrees. That is near death. We quickly took her to the vet and did all we could to get her warm and eating. The good news is she survived the night and is doing better. The bad news is that we have another bottle baby who has a long road of recovery ahead of her. She may have had some brain damage because she was so cold. Keep Bawoo in your prayers. We will do our best to care for her. She is a very special sheep.
And now Limpy has joined in and given birth to a female lamb around 7pm February 8th.. We named her "Little Schmutz" for she got a lot of dirt on her during delivery. Mama is cleaning her up good, but she still is a little schmutzy.
Just minutes after Soggy was born, I found Freckles in the Marshview shelter with her two daughters just minutes old. I knew something was up when all the other ewes were huddled on the other side of the pasture starting at the shelter. Welcome Molly and Holly to Bear Valley Farm!
This morning Norma gave birth to a little spunky ram. We named him "Soggy" for he was born in the barn leanto which was full of water due to the recent thaw. He may have come into a wet world, but Mama cleaned him up real nice. And now he's in a comfortable dry bed. Welcome Soggy to Bear Valley Farm.
