Hershey does not like the fence. He always said that he would escape. And one day he did. But this lamb has bitten off more than he can chew, as you will see in this latest film about the 2018 lambing at Bear Valley Farm. Come witness the unbelievable adventure with the entire cast of our animals.
Sofie and Smokey were the last two lambs born this season. Sofie was very small and Smokey was very colorful. They stuck to each other like glue. Come watch as they are introduced to the world of barnyard life in the Bear Valley. We're sure you will fall in love with these two adorable lambs.
One of the real joys of raising sheep comes from spending quality time with the little lambs. This year a good handful became very tame, allowing Farmer Tom to visit with the likes of Hershey, Moose, Punxy, Smokey and Sofie at close range. This is how sheep worm their way into your heart.
Hershey was the star of the movie "Planet Lamb". He was also Farmer's Tom's favorite sheep this year. Cute, spunky and independent, Hershey remained with us until he was sold to a very nice family farm in Delavan, WI. Here are our memories of this wonderful little lamb who stole our hearts.
The ram lambs have reached breeding age, which requires us to separate them from the females. But this isn't so bad. The rams will now be with Daryl the Donkey, the goats, and dear old Dad (Fabio). Of course there will be a little separation anxiety, but it will pass by the end of the day.
Punxutawney has a new home at a beautiful farm in Shafer, Minnesota. Our spunky little ram, born a triplet from Limpy, is all grown up now and ready to start being a big ram. Punxy will be added to a small flock of Polypay sheep. Come watch and see his adventure.
One of the chores of living on the farm is mowing the grass during the summer months. Thankfully, Farmer Tom has a Scag Turf Tiger which makes quick work of the many acres in the Bear Valley. How quick? Well you just wouldn't believe it. It takes only two minutes.
In his spare time Farmer Tom likes to rest and recreate by flying radio controlled aircraft at his very own flying field at Bear Valley Farm. Come fly in a vintage bi-plane, enjoy the aerobatic Sport Cub, soar in a sailplane, get your kicks with a micro-plane, and take off into the sunset with a night flyer.
The time has come to say goodbye to all our ewe lambs. They will be going to a farm in Ohio to live out their days being wonderful sheep. We will miss you Twinkie and Hoho and Sandie and Squeasy and Snowball and Woozy. But most of all, we will miss you, our dear little Sofie.
As the year 2018 nears its end we must say goodbye to our handsome rams. They were a such a good bunch this year, and we will miss them at Bear Valley Farm. Goodbye Moose, Zagnut, Keebler, Wonka, Oreo, Willy and Smokey. You'll be in our hearts forever.

These are fond memories of a lamb named Weezy. For the short precious time she was with us, Weezy brought us a lot of joy. She had a loud mouth and loved to play. Sadly, over time, she began to decline. We did all that we could for her, and we're comforted by the fact that she lived happily.
It happens every year. While each of the mother sheep are sheared, their babies get all stressed out, as this is the first time they are ever separated from one another. But not to worry. All the hollering and bleating will cease when mothers and lambs are reunited once again.
Our donkey takes his sweet time in the mornings. We usually have to wait a while until Daryl is good and ready to mosey on out. The sheep on the other hand can't wait to stampede out the barn and into the pastures. Come take a look at a lovable slow donkey and fast hungry sheep.
When the painted numbers wear off their butts it is time for the lambs to get their i.d. tags. But they are not going to like it. However, tagging is necessary on the farm so the lambs will just have to make do. Most of them mildly protest, but Punxy really gave us a run for our money.
There are many special sheep at Bear Valley Farm, and Sofie is one of my favorites. She, therefore, gets special treatment, especially at breakfast. Come see what it's like to greet the sheep in the morning and spend some time with the most adorable lamb on the planet.
What's it like to be a sheep or a goat or a donkey on a typical summer day at Bear Valley Farm? Come watch this video to find out. It starts with breakfast followed by an entire day of grazing and loafing. It ends with the sun going down and a nice warm barn, all clean and ready for a pleasant night's sleep.
Bruce our barn cat went missing for ten days and came back with a horrible infection that nearly killed him. But after surgery and some TLC at home he healed nicely and regained his strength. Bruce is no longer a barn cat. He is our inside cat, and we couldn't be happier.
Our willow tree was just getting too big and too heavy. So we needed to trim it. The tree service we hired did a thorough and amazingly fast job. They also took down a dying Ash tree that was in danger of toppling into the creek. Better to be safe than sorry.
Here's a mishmash of highlights from the summer of 2018. Come say good morning to the rams, watch the goats play, meet Mute & Midnight, laugh along with the Donkey Scratch, watch Fabio be reunited with the ewes, see the suspicious new feeder, new kittens, new chickens, & much more.
