This part of sheep raising is very hard for me. I love these sheep and I've watched them grow up from little lambs to these handsome specimens. I'm sorry to see them go. But there are a whole new batch of lambs on the way and we just cannot make room.

It's been an exciting fishing season at Chester Lake. This Northern Pike pounced on my lure just as I was about to lift it out of the water. Notice how I'm careful to avoid to its sharp sharp teeth.
I was taking some Fall pictures on the farm when dark clouds grew over the east horizon. The sun broke through in the west and cast an amazing light on Chester Lake. Check it out!
Beautiful Autumn day today. Thought I'd throw a line into Chester Lake. This big one hit close to the shore by the culvert. Put up a huge fight, but didn't break water. Used a weedless lure.
This post is a little late, but I wanted everyone to know that five of our sheep were sold to a very nice family in West Bend who wanted to start raising sheep very much how we started two years ago. I am so happy that some of our flock will go on to have more lambs and enjoy life on a beautiful farm.
One new thing we discovered about sheep: they eat more than you would ever think. To help satiate their voracious appetites, we invested first in some temporary electric-net fencing to create a 4th paddock just east of the barn. But over the summer it became apparent that even the additional paddock in the rotation scheme was still not enough for 25 hungry sheep. Thus, on October 8th, we installed approximately 1,500 linear ft of woven wire and effectively fenced in about half of our hayfield (about 3.5 acres) We manually pulled all the remaining milkweed out of the field and released the sheep, goats, and donkey into their new pasture wonderland. Now there is plenty of grazing and the animals seem to love the grand expanse of grass available to them. They happily trot out into the hayfield every day and eat their fill.
